I'm Alive!

I had the chance to listen to Daft Punk's latest live recording album a week early, and it is nothing short of phenomenal. First off, check out the songlist...

1. ROBOT ROCK / OH YEAH
2. TOUCH IT / TECHNOLOGIC
3. TELEVISION RULES THE NATION / CRESCENDOLLS
4. TOO LONG / STEAM MACHINE
5. AROUND THE WORLD / HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER
6. BURNIN' /TOO LONG
7. FACE TO FACE / SHORT CIRCUIT
8. ONE MORE TIME / AERODYNAMIC
9. AERODYNAMIC BEATS / FORGET ABOUT THE WORLD
10. PRIME TIME OF YOUR LIFE / BRAINWASHER / ROLLIN' AND SCRATCHIN'/ALIVE
11. DA FUNK / DAFTENDIREKT
12. SUPERHEROES / HUMAN AFTER ALL / ROCK'N ROLL

The keyword here would be "mash-ups." However, Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel does it totally differently from the usual mash-ups Djs and they really put MOS' Mash-Up Mix CDs to shame. The way they mash, overlay and doing live remixes of their own songs is totally a new experience and really inspiring. It is as if the whole set is coded with a subliminal message telling its listeners to strive to be creative, to challenge new frontiers and then never accept anything that reeks of the slightest mediocrity. Here is the first track in the CD, it should tease you enough to get you interested to buy the CD when it drops.

Daft Punk - Robot Rock/Oh Yeah (Alive 2007)

And I really don't mean to take a dig at Kanye, I feel he's really innovative even though he's actually quite a petulant bitch. However, Kanye took their track and made a somewhat good song, but look what Daft Punk does to their own track...and remember this is remixed live!

Daft Punk - Face to Face/Short Circuit (Alive 2007)

I remember when Tiesto is spinning to tens of thousands of people during his stadium concerts, but he just use the normal vinyls and all that, now compare it with what Daft Punk is doing. Anyway...the track that comes up after "Face to Face/Short Circuit," i consider it the climax of their set, here's a video for it...

that's all fellas, till next time.

im in love...wooOOOo , im in love...wooOOOo

I tell ya...by this time next month "im in love...wooOOOo, im in love...wooOOOo" will be playing on loop at every local radio station. That's exactly the way to make a nice catchy electro song sounds super irritating. After the not so elegant downfall of Shitney Queers, Kylie came back big time after successfully battling breast cancer with her new album 'X' (dropping next month). And boy does she have the contacts! People helping Kylie in her new album includes Calvin Harris, Serge Gainsbourgh, Cathy Dennis and Freemasons. On top of that, the producers for her first single "2 Hearts" are apparently an up and coming electro band whose already being signed to big name record companies. Kish Mauve, word has it, that they are gona be next year's Dragonette or Freeform Five! Therefore i bring you, the very addictive "2 Hearts," great tune, seamless production, dun seem too original (sounds really Gwen Stefani-sh at some parts), but it's almost confirmed that it will be a number one hit. And on top of that, an amazing Alan Braxe remix that strips away all the unnecessary elements and whip up the electro sound in the track to another notch.

oh...and peep the video, now I can be sure that I'd not be the only one who sees similarities with Gwen Stefani.

p.s. the musicians jamming with Kylie in the video are Kish Mauve, i'm gona do a little digging about them and then come back in a few day's time with a feature.

does everything need to have a title?

To zealous fans of indie music and the cool and trendy Myspace kids, Bloc Party would've been fucking old news. The thing is, theres nothing really new and exciting for the past weeks either so therefore, i bring u two fucking awesome remixes of BP's song. Besides, this is the only indie band i know of with a Black and Asian guy in it, how cool is that?

First off, the Cutoff and Flaxen remix of "The Prayer" really does accentuate Kele Okereke's vocals in a really nice way. Listen closely to the second breakdown where the remixers added alot of funky riffs to it.

Secondly, we have the SebastiAn aka Mr French Prodigy's remix of their latest single, "I Still Remember." Seb there has this really amazing ability to make all his songs sounds like an orgasmic techno orchestra, its a highly recommended listen, so please check this one out.

Bloc Party - The Prayer (Cutoff and Flaxen Remix)
Bloc Party - I Still Remember (SebastiAn Remix)

In other news, Justice won the Best French Act and also the Best Video (They call it something else). Well, Daft Punk has been busy with their concert so theres no one else to take Best French Act from Justice. However for the Best Video, i'm kinda surprise that they don't give it to Justin Timberlake or Kanye, well it's a good thing that MTV recognises such a talented dance act. And low and behold...Kanye lost it twice to Justice! (last year's We Are Your Friends).

Bad Album Name = Kickass Muzaik!!!

We have never doubt Shinichi Osawa's ability to make kickass tunes, but we never knew he had so much in him. This former member of the Japanese band Monde Grosso went on to reinvent himself into one of the top electronic dance musicians of our time. With this new album, Sinichi would have cemented his place at the top echelons of the electro-clash musicians.

The thing that surprises me is I've known Shinichi's style to be the lyte-funky, soothe blending type, but since of late after signing with Kitsune, Shinichi had dropped some dirty, banging electro sounds. In this album, he took it up to another notch, integrating alot of Daft Punk/Justic-esque kind of French Touch into his tunes. On top of that, the album also features alot of big name guest vocalists, including Au Revoir Simone, Princess Superstar and Freeform Five. Definately worth listening, and do get your copy when it reaches our shores.

how many Sebastians does it take to fix a lightbulb?

Answer to the question above : 1, the one who's wearing the sexual sportswear. Funny, no? The similarities are insignificant, we both have the same name and we both are on the 'hairy' side, but he's French and he makes awesome music. Sébastien Tellier of "La Ritournelle" fame drops the latest heat with "Sexual Sportswear" from his new album that is gona be release somewhere during early '08.

The track has this very 'space orchestra' and Kavinsky feeling to it and it really reminds me of Daft Punk's work from the late nineties. I went on to do a little bit of digging, and I found of that Tellier's new album would have help from Daft Punk's Guy Manuel (I really can't remember his full name). Damn, these Frenchies always help each other to make these kick-ass songs.

And that's not all, another Frenchie, SebastiAn (another one), did a HOT HOT HOT remix of le sportswear sexuel. Seb chopped up the track big time and re-constructed it into a funky, sweaty and somewhat break-sy number. Very very addictive!

I'm Afraid of Crocs!

Many music writers have this bad habit of trying to attach a genre to whatever they hear. I have this habit too, but its usually for the purpose of sorting out my music library. Underworld's new song, "crocodile," I don't know whether to put it in the "experimental, leftfield, IDM-ish" folder, the "ambient, chillout" folder, the or "techno" folder. But its sure one hell of a good track, with trace-synthesizers-ish sounds, housy high hats and bongos, and a very new-wavy kind of vocals with a gratuitous serving of echoes. Damn, it sure can't get more rojak than that so here's the track for you, and you can help me decide.

Underworld - Crocodile
Underworld - Crocodile (Pete Heller Remix)

theres another Oliver Huntemann remix that I decided not to post coz its a little too minimal sounding, but still worth checking out too. And ooh wee...I just did a search and found the video for the song, check it out, it's super trippy!

Les Red Head finally hooks up with Justice

I was so excited to see the Les Rythmes Digitales remix (Stuart Price remix on Radio1, LRD Remix on blogs, no idea why) of D.A.N.C.E. played on Radio 1 last weekend and I finally got my hands on it today, and I gotta say, it's mad quality!

For those who don't know who LRD is, his real name is Stuart Price, most accomplished works to date would be the Madonna's "Confessions" album and also touring with her on the "Confessions" concerts. He goes by a few monikers, Jacques Lu Cont, Paper Faces, Thin White Duke for his remixing works and released an album under the LRD name back in 2000. On top of that also plays in a band, Zoot Woman. Whew, does one guy really need to have so many aliases?

Anyways, he's one of the artistes that got me listening to electronic dance music (the other's Daft Punk) and seems like he also play apart in influencing Justice too as they dropped LRD's "Sometimes" during their sets pretty often.

And now have a listen to the track, LRD did a good job keeping the 'chirpy' elements in D.A.N.C.E. unlike the other remixes (MSTRKRFT and Alan Braxe) where they take it away.

Damn Bloody Good!

In this day and age where a nobody can become SOMEBODY in the EDM scene simply by being a computer geek and have lots of blog love. People starts to question the quality of tracks their getting. However, if you're a crusader, you've found your Holy Grain ; if you're a caveman, you've just discovered Fire!!! This mysterious guy from London who goes by Fake Blood becomes an overnight phenom with the music blogging community with his debut remix of The Black Ghost's "Any Way You Choose To Give It." Then he went on to top it up with remixes for Armand Van Helden and Bonde Do Role. And the beauty about the proliferation of dance music through music blogs is that even Van Helden and Kissy Sell Out gota go to a music blog to download the remixes!

If I ever got my hands on this guy's laptop, I'd definately go ransack his loop libraries and then maybe sabotage his upcoming music projects out of sheer jealousy.

The Black Ghosts - Anyway You Choose To Give It (Fake Blood Remix)
Armand Van Helden - I Want Your Soul (Fake Blood Remix) ***Highly Recomended***

Check out the second (final) breakdown of the "I Want Your Soul" remix, its the one with the distorted guitar (my best guess) sounds. Absolute awesomeness!!!

this joker called Will.I.Am

okay first theres Pharell Williams, did a remix for Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. It recieved some good review but personally I don't think it is anything worth getting excited about. Then Kanye dropped "Stronger," in my opinion, still quite a half-assed job but its been a commercial success. Now this joker call Will.I.Am, comes along and just raps his bullshit lyrics over "Around the World."

Story has it that Will.I.Am was so happy with the track that he immediately made a video of it. Then he went to ask Thomas Bangalter for the permission to release it. And thank god Daft Punk have the sense to give Will a flatout "NO!"

Now on the topic of Daft Punk, gota check this out.

COOL RITE!!!

It'd be so much fun if everyone does it at the same time.

anyways before i sign off, some punk ass bitch stole my bag containing my Hp and wallet when i was playing ball last Friday, so if you want to contact me, im afraid the only way is thru email/msn messenger (seb_sliceoflife@hotmail.com) i'd be online everyday so u prolly gona catch me there.

P-P-P-P-POGO!!!

yeeaaa...woo-ohh-oh, theres somethin in the airrrrr...woo-ohh-oh.

I dun mean to boast but back in '05, i know Digitalism is gona be a big commercial success one day after hearing the superamazing "Zdarlight." It took them something before coming out with their debut album "Idealism" this summer and ever since I've got my hands on it, I've been listening to it over and over. I'm instantly hooked to "Pogo," which is my favourite track in an album full of potentially hit tracks. Theres just something bout the synth sounds and vocals that makes it such a catchy tune. I totally wouldn't mind if every dance acts sounds like Digitalism, but too bad they are one of a kind. So here's a few remixes.

Digitalism - Pogo (Maximised by Punks Jump Up)
Digitalism - Pogo (Shinichi Osawa Distortion Edit)

Jump On It!

oy oy...im finally back. Been really busy lately with so much going on, I've been trying to set up a new and better music blog with a few friends but the idea had been on hold for the moment, so stay tuned folks, in the meantime I'd try to update this blog regularly again.

Anyways...Punks Jump Up, a Briton and Swedish somehow came together and started making these awesome tunes with chunk loads of 80s samples and funky basslines. Their video of their current hit track "Dance To Our Disco" is embeded on top, do check it out. While they are working on their debut album, they've released loads of kick ass remixes of the hottest tracks around, heres 2 of them.

Soundaholic's Pick - 15.6.07

I don't wana look like too much of a Justice fan, cause everyone has been blogging about how great they are. But I gotta admit, there isn't simply one day in the last 3-5 months that I haven't listen to a Justice track. Moreover the whole world seems to be listening to their album on loop and every electro DJ have Justice on their set. So low and behold, it's time we drink the water...from Nazareth.

Justice - Waters Of Nazareth
Justice - Waters Of Nazareth (Justice Remix)
Justice - Waters Of Nazareth (Erol Alkan Durr Durrr Durrrrrr Re Edit)

I still remember how I got a headache after hearing this track for the first time. That was about half a year ago and I thought my CD player is skipping, then after awhile into the track, I was banging my head like crazy. Anyway heres a video of the Waters of Nazareth release party, it features a star studded lineup including Feadz, Mr Ozio, Uffie, SebastiAn, DJ Funk, Surkin, Kavinsky, Erol Alkan (Mustapha 3000) and Justice! I would kill to go to a gig like that. (go google the above names, they are the hottest electro musicians around these days)

LCD's the new LSD

It's abit late and I'm really cursing myself for dismissing this track the first time I heard it, on hindsight, I'm going "what were you thinking Seb!" LCD Soundsystem's 'All my Friends' from their latest album 'Sound of Silver' is just the track that will keep growing on you. It is one hell of an Electronica track that incorporates elements of progressive rock and then gets very intensive as it goes on.
And just when you think thats it, there a Franz Ferdinand cover thats produced by Erol Elkan that sounds really indie and folksy. Well thats the first time we've heard from Franz Ferdinand in awhile as they are working on their third studio album.
The only other version of "All my Friends" that I haven't heard is the one that's covered by former Velvet Underground member John Cale, I'd be eagerly anticipating for that one.

LCD Soundsystems - All My Friends
Franz Ferdinand - All My Friends (Lcd Soundsystem Cover)

And on top of today's goodies I have a CSS remix of The Cribs' "Men's Needs." A little info on The Cribs, a typical UK indie band, they are this 3 brothers from Leeds and they are very tight with fellow Yorkshiremen of Kaiser Chiefs. There you go.

Soundaholic's Pick - 3.7.07

Oi oi! What's good everyone. It sure has been one hell of a week for me but thankfully I've got this one hell of a band to keep me company. Cansei de ser Sexy's (CSS) would be the most popular band coming out of Brazil yet and their electro-pop/rock and synthish dance-punk tunes are just so addictive. Made up mostly of art-school kids (the usual design your own instruments , clothes and CD sleeve ones) who aren't really proficient with guitars and other instruments just yet, CSS are coming out with great tunes to wow crowds as they toured almost every major music festival around the world this summer nonetheless. So as I am space dancing, shuffling, walking-man(ing), robo dancing and moshing by myself in my lil hot bedroom while listening to CSS and bringing in my 19th year on this world tonite, here's a few tracks for you guys.

And two of their really mind-fucking music videos.

"Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above"

"Alala"

and I wana add that I'm just so smitten by their bassist Iracema Trevisan and of course, every guy would notice their Japanese/German/Portugese lead singer Luisa Matsushita which goes by "Lovefoxxx."

Soulstring - House Me Tonite Volume One

I've never been a big house fan but I just can't resist doing a mix with a few of the quality tracks I have in my collection. It starts off really minimal in the beginning and then gets very techy/garagy/acidy as it goes on. Do enjoy it and here's the songlist.

01. Djuma Soundsystems - Les Djinns (My My Remix) , Get Physical Music
02. The KLF and Ricardo Villalobos - What Time Is Love (Veto Retro Mix #2) , Balou Sounds
03. Nic Fanciulli - Lucky Heather (Original Mix) , Glass Splinters
04. Guy Gerber & Shlomi Aber - After Love , Cocoon Recordings
05. Danny Tenaglia - Dibiza (Bring The Drums Back) , Stereo Productions
06. Nick Holder - Inside Your Soul (Lexicon Avenue Remix) , NRK Sound Division

Soundaholic's Pick 21.6.07

Nothing from Groove Armada can go wrong. Period. Tom and Andy's done it again, this time with a little help from ex-Sugababes Mutya Buena. In many people's opinion, the latest single "Song 4 Mutya" would be a definate number one in pop charts all accross the world. In my opinion, the best pop track this year, our dear Mika would then be a far second.
Like Mika, whose been trying to do a Freddie Mercury, "Song 4 Mutya" also has this 80's nostalgia and new wave feel to it. A few parts in the song really sound like something from Erasure, Prince and New Order with Tom and Andy's touch to it, and the catchy "its a sure fine way to ruin my day" lyrics would just stick to your head for days!

We also to give abit of love to Mutya Buena for her efforts to re-invent herself after life as a Sugababe. She's dug up a whole lists of contacts including George Michael, Amy Winehouse and of course Groove Armada to help her out on her new album which just dropped earlier this month. So, here you go...enjoy the track.

And to throw in a few bonus tracks...hey everyone's a sucker for Groove Armada and so am I.

add another inch to it

Work is really tiring, but at least I have the new Nine Inch Nails CD to accompany home when I'm on the train home. NIN's signature intense wall of sound really transports you to another place as soon as you plug in ur earphones. And about their latest album, Year Zero, there seems to be many political connotations to it, which is the direction NIN had been adopting for their past few album. Nonetheless, Year Zero would make a very good listen, so here's 2 of my fave track.

And also I'm throwing 2 more tracks from a few years back...here u go

That's all for today. Cya.

One Plus One

The last time we saw 2 very talented DJs joining forces together would be when Sasha and John Digweed were pumping out hard house and techno hits out of the soundsystems of almost all the major clubs round the world. Fast forward to 2007, the Ministry of Sound label (with their huge stash of money) were once again able to bring together 2 of today's most exciting and talented DJs to join forces and record a studio produced mix CD. And like they say, the rest is history.

Zabiela and Fanciulli went on to tour major clubs in every continent, keeping the dance floor jam packed with tunes that seamlessly amalgamates James' futuristic and very technical electro with Nic's acid sounds. Here are the 2 latest track by James and Nic under the One+One banner. Enjoy.

James Zabiela & Nic Fanciulli (One Plus One) - No Pressure
James Zabiela & Nic Fanciulli (One Plus One) - Rover (go to link and click on "download original")

Maybe the above track might sound too minimal or mellow for some of your taste (so sorry to have hijack Zabiela's and Fanciulli's post), so heres another track that I came accross over the weekend in my friends car while going for supper. It's one of those track that's really popular a few summer ago and totally went of the radar after that.

Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child

And thats all for today, have a great week ahead.

seb got bad taste

hey whats good?
the James Zabiela and Nic Fancuili gig last night at MOS was pretty banging, had a great night out and of course, yours truly here got pissed drunk. I'd post at few of the tracks i recognize from the set sometime tomorrow or over the next week.

newaes today's tracks might just be the worst few i've posted here thus far. commercial electro are usually frowned upon by the so called "music elitists" but hey, everyone probably got exposed to the genre of Electronic Dance Music through a commercial dance track that they love when clubbing.

i gota say i've been listening to these 2 tracks quite often lately and i'm sure i'd get sick of it pretty soon and then start shaming myself for having such bad taste. (just like what happen to "Put Your Hands Up For Detroit" by Fedde Le Grand" and all the Tiestoes track i got)

anyway here it is...so do enjoy;)

STFU - Shut The F**k Up (Mouth To Mouth Mix)
STFU - Shut The F**k Up (Tim Le El & Wollion Remix)
Rihanna - Umbrella (Bert 27's Sun Radio Mix)
Rihanna - Umbrella (Vandalism Mix)

(Thats right, ur eyes are not playing tricks on you, I love Rihanna so sue me!)

if you can't beat em, join em!

"bonjour bro, can you hook me up with Daft Punk?"

You saw it coming didn't you.

Remember back in last year when Kanye West intereupted an award presentation at the MTV Europe Music Awards to complain bout how his "Touch the Sky" MV should have won best video instead of Justice VS Simian's "We Are Your Friends?"

well here it is to refresh your memory

and here's the video the whopped "Touch the Sky," real classic

And so, Kanye seems to have done some research on his rivals coz I just heard his latest single from his 2oo7 "Graduation" album thats scheduled to drop during end of August. You guessed it, theres a real unfortunate sample to it.

Kanye West - Stronger
Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (right click, save target to download)

My opinion..."Stronger" is mediocre at best (please pardon the oxymoron). Daft Punk's french electro sound definately don't go well with Kanye's style of hip hop. Thomas Bangalter must be fuming mad. However, another song from "Graduation" seems quite promising, "Bittersweet" features John Mayer and it's probably Dave Chapelle who hooked them up. Peep this very interesting studio interview.

Ha, I sure recognize some Dave Chapelle's style of humour in it. And if you've realise, Kanye seems really soft spoken in the interview which is totally different the way he act when he interupted the award presentation. Anyways here's a few remixes for "We are Your Friends" and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

Justice Vs Simian - We Are Your Friends (Radio Slave And Spencer Parker Re-Edit)
Justice Vs Simian - We Are Your Friends (Lee Cabrera's Lower East Side Remix)
Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger (Pharell William's Neptunes Mix)

Thats all for today folks, I'm going over to James Zabiela and Nic Fancuili's gig at MOS now.

Enjoy the weekends.

†††JUSTICE†††

the new daft punk?
according to Hype Machine, this 2 French graphic designers turned electronic dance musician have been the most blogged-about artiste this past few months. no surprises as their much anticipated album "" (cross) had just dropped this week. so if u haven't heard D.A.N.C.E...ur a turd and ur way behind time. so heres the MV for it, its a MUST WATCH.
I'm listening to the album now and i gota say that im totally impress, they definately live up to their hype after being called "the most influential musician from France since Daft Punk" by Pete Tong during last week's essential mix. and talking about their essential mix session, they totally pulled it off, lots of classic eighties samples intertwines smoothly amongst the hottest French electro tracks.
Download it Here.
and if ur confident about your streaming capabilities, listen to it below.
and heres the songlist.
I think they also set the record for the most amount of tracks during a single essential mix session (70 over songs in 2 hours!).
so here you go and have a good day, i'll put a few songs up for download over the next few days so come back and check often.
cheers!

Soundaholic's Pick - 13.6.07

hey whats good?

i've been messing with my site for the past hour and blogger is totally different since the last time i used it. anyways...lets get started.

Dragonette is a four piece band from Canada but is now based in the UK. I came accross them while surfing through Discogs earlier this year and its star attraction is undoubtedly its lead singer, Martina Sorbara. After reading up on em, found out that Martina's dad is a conservative politician in Canada and he seems to despise her for being in the band. (Martina's a clean soulful solo singer/songwriter before she adopted the current raunchy image in Dragonette)

Their second single from their debut album "Galore" is "Take It Like A Man." Sounds like good ol' electro-pop, kinda sweet and danceable but not too overwhelming. However, the music video is definately gona turn some heads. Filmed in a retro 60's-ish kinda way (theres this Judy Garland, Grace Kelly texture to it), it depicts a porno-film set where Martina gets it rough with her co-actors. They then zoom in on the comical expressions of all the other people in the set. Simply genius! haha.

So here it is, its got a 18 above only rating in Youtube so i don't know how this is gona work out. cheers.

hey there.

i'd be posting about music and a little of my life mainly and it's prolly gon be really boring. so dun bother to bear with it and go surf some porno site instead.

cheers
